    About the Project

For Hamilton College's Alumni Dinner, we created "Pictures of the Past," a film built around a simple visual magic trick. Alumni-era photographs are held up on campus and aligned with the present day, so the frame becomes a window through time. As each photo drops away, the modern campus is revealed in the exact same spot, showing how Hamilton has evolved and how that evolution was made possible by the people who continued to invest in it.

The film moves across iconic locations, layering nostalgia with momentum. It builds toward a final reveal of the Alumni Dinner room itself, connecting the past in the photograph to the gathering happening now. The tone is poetic and cinematic, designed to feel like memory becoming present tense.

    Why This Exists

Alumni giving is often discussed in abstractions. This concept exists to make impact visible. By literally overlaying past and present, the film turns "support" into something you can see, feel, and measure. The story culminates in a forward-facing question, "what if," inviting alumni to imagine the next era Hamilton can build if they continue to show up.

The format was also designed to live beyond the room. In addition to the long-form dinner film, the concept supports cutdowns and short social assets, plus photo deliverables and an optional activation where alumni share their own then-and-now photos at meaningful campus locations.
